Novel compounds of the formula wherein A is -CH2-CH2- or -CH=CH-, and R is H, alkyl, aryl, bromoaryl, acyl or aralkyl, the R groups being the same or different, may be prepared from the compound by oximation of the keto group, e.g. with hydroxylammonium chloride, with the optional steps of hydrogenating the olefinic bond and/or etherifying or acylating the OH groups. Therapeutic compositions comprise a compound of the formula first given above, together with a suitable diluent, and may take the form of a feed or an injection suspension, e.g. in peanut oil. The active compounds have estrogenic and growth-promoting activity. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 951,349.
