PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile communication apparatus or a facsimile communication method, capable of performing communication without interrupting public lines by mistake. SOLUTION: The facsimile communication apparatus is provided with a polarity inversion detection means for detecting inversion of the polarity of a caller side public line; and a CED signal detection means for detecting a CED signal outputted from a caller party, immediately after the CED signal detection means detects the CED signal from an opposite party at making a call, after a lapse of a predetermined time T from a detection state of the CED signal, the polarity inversion detection means detects polarity inversion as to whether the polarity of the public line is inverted, and interrupts the public line, when the polarity inversion is detected.
