The sensor(2) is held in the runner system of the molding tool by a contact(4) of the component which forms an electrical contact for the insert. Plastic(14) is then injected to form a molded product(1) incorporating the sensor. The sensor(2) and contact(4) are welded or soldered together. A supporting frame(12) on the contact(4) projecting beyond the surface(16) of the molded component(1) is cut off after plastic(14) injection. Openings remaining in the molded plastic after cutting off the supporting frame are subsequently filled with sealant. In a process variation the insert may be at least partly embedded in plastic(32) in a single preliminary operation.
