<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an expansion of storage capacity and an increase in device scale by streamlining the use of storing means capable of relatively high speed reading when feature quantity data are replicated from a database to the storing means and used for matching. <P>SOLUTION: A flow shown represents a control procedure for fingerprint authentication for permitting printing only to authorized persons. Feature quantity data necessary for the authentication are replicated from a database stored in an HDD to a ROM (nonvolatile). Since the feature quantity data used in the authentication (S207) are held in the ROM, later matching processing first accesses the ROM, which is accessible at a higher speed than the HDD. If there is no access to the replicated data in the ROM in a predetermined period (period management information has been given in S210), the data are erased (Task 2 in a figure) to streamline the ROM use. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
