PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which has a high operability and low manufacturing costs.

SOLUTION: The printer connectible with a host computer has a selecting means (operation panel 32) for selecting image data to be printed, a requesting means (control circuit 40) for requesting the host computer to convert the image data selected by the selecting means to printing data, a receiving means (control circuit 40) for receiving the printing data generated at the host computer as a result of the request of the requesting means, and a printing means (printing head 12) for printing images to a printing medium on the basis of the printing data received by the receiving means.
