A portable hole cutter for cutting holes in sheet material comprises a pivot 18 adjustable along a slot in an arm portion 12 of the cutter body and a milling bit 28 journalled in a tube portion 13 of the cutter body. The end portion 21 of the tube portion 13 is spaced from the sheet to be cut by a bracket 35 which has a cutting member 41 in engagement with the sheet 40 to provide a gap through which chips may escape, and a stabilizing element 38 projecting into the slot 39 being cut. The cutting member 41 is provided with a cutting edge (42), (Fig. 4, not shown). The use of the cutting member 41 and stabilizing element 38 produces a smoother cut, prevents binding of chips, and enables a hole to be cut with less heat generated. |
