<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive support device that allows quickly assessing the possibility of collision with a vehicle ahead. <P>SOLUTION: When the deceleration (α) of a vehicle ahead is not less than the maximum deceleration (αmax) that can be generated on the road surface on which it travels, the deceleration can be assumed to be not caused by the driver's normal brake operation but by, for example, the collision of the vehicle ahead with another vehicle at the end of a traffic jam. In such situations, if the driver of one's own vehicle does not notice a change with the vehicle ahead or is slow in noticing it, the likelihood of collision with the vehicle ahead increases. Thus, assessing the possibility of collision with the vehicle ahead on the basis of the relationship between the deceleration (α) of the vehicle ahead and the maximum deceleration (αmax) allows quickly determining the possibility of collision with the vehicle ahead even in temporally urgent situations. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
