A bar-stock feeding mechanism for an automatic machine tool comprises an inclined rack 3, carrying a stock of bars 4, and an elongated feed member 5 of L-section which is pivotable about an axis A by pneumatic means 9 so as to alternately receive a bar from the rack and discharge it into an open feed channel 2. Abutment means 10 is provided on the feed member so that when a bar is being discharged into the machine feed channel the other bars are retained in the rack. The bar stock may be fed into the machine tool by a chain-actuated means 18. In an alternative embodiment the machine feed channel is in the form of a longitudinally split tube the upper portion 12 being displaceable by pneumatic means 14 to permit the bar stock discharged from the feed member 5 to enter the channel. In a further embodiment the lower portion 2 of the feed tube is tiltable to facilitate the discharge of the waste end of a bar down a shoot (24). |
