PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display wherein a point defect is reduced and transmissivity is enhanced. SOLUTION: In a structure wherein a counter electrode having rectangular flat pattern and a comb-shaped transparent pixel electrode which are formed by using a transparent material are superposed on one substrate via an insulating film in one pixel region, a notch or a slit is incorporated in the counter electrode so that a source electrode of an opaque material transmitting potential from a thin film transistor to the transparent pixel electrode does not overlap with the counter electrode.
