PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new process for making group II metal carbonated, overbased Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols. SOLUTION: The process for making carbonated, overbased Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols is provided, which process uses ethylene carbonate as both sources of carbon dioxide and ethylene glycol. Under the reaction conditions using ethylene carbonate, carbonation and overbasing of Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols are possible while the viscosity of the carbonated, overbased Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols remains within acceptable levels (≤1,000 cSt at 100°C). And carbonation of Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols using a 2-6C alkylene glycol and carbon dioxide is related. A detergent-dispersant antioxidant additive comprising the carbonated, overbased Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols is also related, wherein the carbonated, overbased Mannich condensation products of alkylphenols have a CO<SB>2</SB>to Ca ratio of≥0.01.
