PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a magnetic head in which gap width is extremely stable, crack and breakage are not caused in a gap part, an air bubble is not caused in the gap, and which uses a high quality metallic magnetic film. SOLUTION: In a magnetic head in which compound magnetic cores constituted of the metallic magnetic film 1 are joined via a gap material 2, the first layer of the gap material is formed by the non-magnetic oxide film of a main component SiO<SB>2</SB>being a spacer layer 3, after that, heat treatment is performed. A second layer is formed by a non-magnetic metallic film or a metal oxide film being a barrier layer 4, a third layer is constituted of a non-magnetic glass film being a joining layer 5, the gap is formed by being joined by the glass film of the third layer by heat treatment, and the magnetic head having high quality and high gap width precision can be manufactured.
