<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device capable of displaying an image with a high contrast and good visibility even in environment wherein it is dark in the circumference by suppressing light emission in black display. <P>SOLUTION: For a plasma display panel which uses a phosphor whose surface is positively electrified as a phosphor (for example, an aluminate-based compound phosphor or yttrium oxide-based compound phosphor having aβ-alumina crystal structure as a green phosphor), 1st initialization discharge using a scanning electrode as an anode and a data electrode as a cathode is performed in the former half of an initialization period while discharge between the scanning electrode and a maintenance electrode is suppressed and 2nd initialization discharge using the scanning electrode as a cathode and the maintenance electrode data electrode as an anode is carried out in the latter half of the initialization period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
