PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rebound type portable hardness meter at a low cost, capable of calculating a correct hardness of a sample, regardless of gradient angles at which its impact hammer is set. SOLUTION: The hardness meter 11 is equipped with a hardness calculating section 7 where a gradient angleθof the impact hammer 3 is calculated by a gradient angle calculating means (e.g., CPU 73 and gradient angle calculation program 743), based on velocity of the impact hammer 3 measured by a velocity measuring means (e.g., CPU 73 and velocity calculation program 742), and the hardness of the sample S is calculated by a hardness calculating means (e.g., CPU 73 and hardness calculation program 744), based on the velocity of the impact hammer, and then, the correct hardness of the sample S is calculated by a hardness correcting means (e.g., CPU 73 and hardness correction program 745), based on the hardness of the sample and the gradient angleθof the impact hammer.
