PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping apparatus and a tool for setting a test piece that appropriately set a soft material, or even a filament test piece easily without giving any damage, or the like. SOLUTION: While both the end sections of the test piece W are being sandwiched, a pair of sandwiching members 71, 72 that can be gripped by gripping tools 11, 12, respectively, is integrated/separated each other by integration mechanisms 73, 74, S. The sandwiching members 71, 72 are removed from the gripping tools 11, 12, and both the end sections of the test piece W are sandwiched at an arbitrary location while they are integrated mutually. Then, respective sandwiching members 71, 72 are gripped by the gripping tools 11, 12, and the integration of respective sandwiching members 71, 72 is loosened for separation, thus easily sandwiching both the end sections by the sandwiching members 71, 72 without giving damages, or the like to the test piece W for gripping by the gripping tools 11, 12 as they are, thus allowing gripping work to set a material testing machine with the same easiness as the test piece of a rigid body regardless of a soft test piece or a filament test piece.
