<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte having high proton conductance in addition to high dimensional stability and high water resistance, and to provide the production method of the polymer electrolyte, and a proton conducting membrane made of the polymer electrolyte. <P>SOLUTION: The polymer electrolyte is made of a polymer having polyphenylene structure in a main chain, and a strongly acidic group and a sulfonic group. The polymer electrolyte preferably has the polyphenylene structure represented by a general formula (A). In the formula, Y represents a divalent electron attractive group: Z represents a divalent electron donative group or direct coupling; Ar represents an aromatic group having a substituent group represented by -SO<SB>3</SB>H; m is an integer of 0-10: n is an integer of 0-10; and k is an integer of 0-4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
