DETOXIFICATION METHOD OF SLUDGE OR SOIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more effectively detoxifying sludge or soil containing a large amount of sulfur compounds generated in a hot spring, a geothermal plant, or the like, and containing mercury compounds difficult to be treated by an organic chelate-based heavy metal treating agent. SOLUTION: The mercury compounds-containing sludge or soil is oxidized to convert reductive sulfur compounds, such as S2-and S2O32-, into elemental sulfur or a sulfate ion (SO42-), and then the elution of heavy metals is controlled by adding a heavy metal treating agent to perform detoxification treatment.
