PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color estimation method, capable of estimating over-printing colors by calculating the spectral density corresponding to the values of a white background and a color table of CMYK 1/2/3/4-th order colors read from a device profile of a printer, and performing over-printing with the spectral density of a specific color. SOLUTION: Spectral density base data 32 are produced by using a spectral density meter 7 to measure the spectral density of a background color of print paper, basic colors, characteristics and a background color of paper with the characteristics printed thereon. A spectral density calculating means 311 calculates the spectral density, corresponding to L*a*b* values of the background color and the CMYK1/2/3/4-th order colors stored in a color table 34 of a printer 6 from the spectral density of the background color and the basic colors stored in the spectral density basic data 32. On the basis of the spectral density, characteristics and the spectral density of the paper with the characteristics printed thereon, a spectral density estimating means 312 calculates the estimate value of the spectral density of the over-printing color resulting from printing the characteristics over the CMYK1/2/3/4-th order colors.
