PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure miniaturization and low power consumption while satisfying attraction characteristics and release characteristics required as an electromagnet apparatus by skillfully making use of a permanent magnet provided on a fixed iron core. SOLUTION: The electromagnet apparatus comprises the fixed iron core 7 where an excitation coil 8 is wound around iron legs 4, 5, a movable iron core 9 facing a magnetic pole of the fixed iron core, and a return spring 10; and serves to attract the movable iron core against the return spring by the excitation of the excitation coil. In the electromagnet apparatus, the permanent magnet 17 is interposed between the magnetic poles of the fixed iron core facing the movable iron core, and the permanent magnet is disposed such that N and S poles at opposite ends thereof provide the same polarities n, s generated at magnetic poles of the fixed iron core owing to the excitation of the coil. As a concrete example, the end surface of the magnetic pole of the permanent magnet a is interposed between pole pieces facing the side surface of the pole piece 11 disposed on a magnetic pole end surface of the fixed iron core.
