PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and highly accurately detect the abnormality of a machining cutting tool without executing setting change work even if driving conditions at a driving part of a machining device and machining conditions of an object to be machined by the machining cutting tool are changed, and moreover, without dropping the productivity. SOLUTION: The machining device with a function for detecting the abnormality of a cutting tool has a driving wattmeter 30 for detecting driving power fed to the driving part 24. Fixed driving power, when the object 10 to be machined and the machining cutting tool are rotated at fixed speed in a no-load state of non-contacting, is automatically set as a no-load reference power value after the elapse of a prescribed time before a machining period after the rise of the driving power after the driving part 24 is started. The driving power, which is larger than the no-load reference value by a prescribed amount, is automatically set as an overload power value. When the driving power of below the no-load reference power value is detected during the machining period or when the driving power exceeding the overload power value is detected, a signal for detecting the abnormality of a machining cutting tool is generated.
