PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fluorescent contrast medium for diagnosis of cancer or tumor having low toxicity and excellent water solubility, emitting fluorescence in a region transmittable through biological tissues and providing specific imaging of the tumor, cancer and/or blood vessels, and to provide a method for fluorescence imaging diagnosis. SOLUTION: The fluorescent contrast medium for diagnosis comprises an oxonol dye having a polymethine chain.
