The door handle assembly (1) to operate a door lock (2) has handles (4,5) and a square section dowel (6) to engage the lock rotor. Each handle fits into a mounting fixed to the door. In the release position, the freely pivotable handle (5) is connected to the axial stub of a coupling (10) which has a radial sector shaped flange fitting onto the dowel. The coupling has a lever (13) engageable with it and actuated by an electromagnet in the coupling.
