<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which securely detects, by a simple structure, a sheet clinging to an intermediate transfer belt and prevents the sheet from entering the apparatus by the intermediate transfer belt. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the intermediate transfer belt B for transferring a formed toner image to its surface; a pair of regist rollers 14 an 15; a belt surface sensor S1 which is disposed downstream of the transfer position in the direction of the movement of the belt surface and in the position where a distance by which a sheet is moved from a sheet holding position of the pair of regist rollers is shorter than the length of the sheet in the direction of the conveyance of the sheet, and which detects the sheet on the surface of the belt; and a control part which stops the conveyance of the sheet by the conveying means upon the detection of the sheet by the belt surface sensor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
