<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a photosensor for shortening a rising time since a light emitting diode emits the rays of lights until detecting precision is made stable; and an image forming apparatus for reducing the constraint of a detection time by the photosensor, and for realizing highly precise detection and high quality output. <P>SOLUTION: Currents I<SB>0</SB>are made to flow through the light emitting diode of a photosensor, and an object to be detected is irradiated with the rays of light outgoing from the light emitting diode so that the object to be detected can be detected.
