A method of manufacturing a multiple magnetic head comprises the steps of processing and shaping as a unit the portions 9 containing the individual gaps and associating with said portions a closure element comprising a corresponding number of closure pieces which complete the individual magnetic circuits and have windings thereon. Fig. 2 shows an embodiment in which a closure element 8 comprises a number of magnetic layers 13, such as of ferrite, with windings 14 thereon and interleaved with layers 15, such as of aluminium oxide. The pole portions 9 are cut in the form of V-shapes from a block comprising alternate layers of ferrite and aluminium oxide, and are then provided with flattened and polished surfaces A and placed together with non-magnetic spacing pieces 29 therebetween. After cutting along a line 30 two pairs of portions 9 are thereby provided, each pair of which can be placed in association with a closure element 8 to complete a multiple magnetic head. An alternative construction is described with reference to Fig. 6, in which an I-shaped closure element is employed and in which the ferrite layers extend beyond the aluminium oxide layer and form guide-slots 32 for pins 47 which may serve as terminal post. A portion of strengthening tube 45 may be cemented between pole portions 33, 34 before cutting along the line 43 to enable the pole portions to be constructed as a rigid assembly.
