<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device and an electronic device which are advantageous for facilitating operation when selecting a selectable item. <P>SOLUTION: The input device 20 is provided with a trackball 22, an accommodating part 24, and a detection means 26. The trackball 22 has an outer surface 2204 on which many polygons 2202 are formed. A bottom surface 2406 is composed of a single plane on which a part of the polygons 2202 is placed. Each of detection parts 2602, 2604 is composed of a light emitting element and two light receiving elements. As the trackball 22 is rotated, detection light emitted from the light emitting element is reflected on the mirror surface of the polygons 2202, its reflected light is moved accompanied by the rotation of the trackball 22, namely, the movement of the polygons 2202, and every time the reflected light passes through the portion of the two light receiving elements, light receiving signals are outputted from the two light receiving elements. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
