PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of operability for an unskillful user or the like, when it is contrived not to accept a particular operation from a remote commander in a DVD player, for example, with respect to a reproducing apparatus, and to provide a method of controlling the reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: The reproducing apparatus displays operation units, operable from the remote commander on the basis of control information for controlling reproduction of video data recorded on a recording medium and reproduces the video data, by selectively receiving the operation of the operable operation units.
