PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent abnormal approach to a preceding vehicle in case of passing by the preceding vehicle that is in a deviating tendency from its lane while realizing traveling control matching driving operation feeling of a general driver. SOLUTION: This traveling control device for a vehicle conducts a vehicle following distance control in such a way that vehicle following distance L to the preceding vehicle becomes target vehicle following distance L* to the preceding vehicle at preliminarily set car speed (set car speed) Vset or less in a case of following the preceding vehicle, and car speed control in such a way that car speed V becomes the set car speed Vset in case of having no preceding vehicle on its lane. If the preceding vehicle is in a deviating tendency from its lane or not is determined, and if it is possible to pass by the preceding vehicle on the lane or not is determined. When it is determined that the preceding vehicle is in a deviating tendency from the lane, acceleration up to the set speed Vset is permitted in case where it is determined that passing by the preceding vehicle is possible, and acceleration is prohibited in case where it is determined that passing by the preceding vehicle in the lane is not possible.
