PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal joint with small slide resistance, having an inexpensive seal member while obtaining practically sufficient sealing performance. SOLUTION: In the universal joint 1A, an outer ring cup 17 supports a trunnion 15A of a cross shaft 13 through a needle-like roll 18. An inexpensive O ring 35 having a non-restricted outer periphery 35a is elastically fitted to an annular groove 34 divided by a flange part 30 of an opening end 31 of the outer ring cup 17 and a shoulder part 25 of the cross shaft 13. A half of a circular area formed by a cross section of O ring in the free state having a central radius R is made to A. In a cross section including a central axis C1, an area of the area 39 divided between a parallel line 37 left from the central axis C1 by a distance R and a profile line 38 of the annular groove 34 is made to B. The ratio of A/B is made to a value within a range of 0.68-1.4. For example, outflow of a grease from the outer ring cup 17 can be prevented while suppressing pivoting torque.
