<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element where the thickness and the phase difference in each area can be made equal and the width of a selective reflection band is adjustable, regarding the optical element constituted by using liquid crystal. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element 1 has a laminated structure where a liquid crystal layer 4 constituted of two or more kinds of fine liquid crystal layers is laminated on a substrate 2 across an orientation film 3, and each fine liquid crystal layer is constituted so that it is a hardened material of a polymerizable liquid crystal composition, and the double refractive index of one layer is made different from that of another layer, as a result, it is possible to fix the thickness and make the retardation of each area equal, and also, it is possible to make the thickness and the retardation of each area uniform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
