<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display quality of a liquid crystal cell by solving problems associated with light leakage in a black display and yellow discoloration in a white display in an oblique direction of the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell and so on. <P>SOLUTION: The vertical alignment liquid crystal cell is provided with a vertical alignment liquid crystal cell main body and polarizing plates disposed on the upper and lower sides of the liquid crystal cell main body. An optical compensation layer is equipped between at least the liquid crystal cell main body and one of the polarizing plates. The wavelength dispersion characteristic A of a phase difference ratio (Rthx/Rth550) of the optical compensation layer and the wavelength dispersion characteristic B of a phase difference ratio (Rthx/Rth550) of the liquid crystal cell main body satisfy an inequality (1) -0.025≤A-B≤0.025 for an identical wavelength in the entire wavelength region of 430 to 680 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
