METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALKALI SALT OF ALKYL SULFO-SUBSTITUTED AROMATIC CARBOXYLATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkali salt of an alkyl sulfo-substituted aromatic carboxylate suppressing the lowering (degradation) of esterification ratio and achieving a high esterification ratio and high yield. SOLUTION: The method for production is carried out as follows. A mixed solution or an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide with a lower alcohol or an aqueous solution of an alkali carbonate or an alkali hydrogencarbonate is added to an alkyl sulfo-substituted aromatic carboxylate and/or a solution containing the alkyl sulfo-substituted aromatic carboxylate. Thereby, an alkali treatment step of subjecting the alkyl sulfo-substituted aromatic carboxylate to an alkali treatment is carried out so that the end point of the solution containing the alkyl sulfo-substituted aromatic carboxylate is within the range of pH3.0-6.5.
