<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator capable of preventing an auxiliary mirror from being exposed to high-temperature environment and broken. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminator 1 has an arc lamp 2, a parabolic reflection mirror 3 and the auxiliary mirror 4 guiding a part of light radiated from the light emitting part 12 of the arc lamp 2 to the mirror 3. The outer peripheral surface of the mirror 4 is covered with a heat radiation member 26 good in heat conductivity, and a plurality of radiation fins 25 are integrally formed on the outer peripheral surface of the member 26. The heat of the mirror 4 is efficiently radiated to the outside from the fins 25 through the member 26.
