<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil as an additive for paints and inks excellent in gloss and stability with time; to provide an oil for obtaining paints and inks excellent in gloss, spreadability and stability with time; and to provide paints and inks containing the above oil. <P>SOLUTION: The oil contains one or more ester compounds shown by general formula (1). In general formula (1) R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>4</SB>are each a hydrogen atom, a residue of a 3-28C branched fatty acid or an acyl group of benzoic acid compounds shown by general formula (2), at least one of R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>4</SB>being an acyl group of benzoic acid compounds.
