PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of dust and static electricity, in a rubbing process giving orientation on an alignment film. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display 71 sealing a liquid crystal in a space formed by holding an interval between substrates 11 by forming at least a liquid crystal drive electrode and the alignment film 21 orientating the liquid crystal in a specific direction on a pair of the facing substrates 11, rubbing treatment giving the orientation on the alignment film 21 formed on the substrate 11 in the specific direction is transferred on the surface of the alignment film 21 forming the shape of a groove 33 formed on a transfer substrate 31 on the substrate 11, by using the transfer substrate 31 forming the groove 33 for giving the orientation on the alignment film 21.
