PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vane pump capable of preventing breakdown during operation by changing a breakdown mode of the pump. SOLUTION: The vane pump 10 includes a pump housing 12; a cam member 14; a cylindrical rotor member 16; and a mechanism for transmitting a high pressure fluid from a curve area for delivery to a curve area for inlet. When distal end surfaces 21 of respective vane elements 18 arrive at the previously determined wear amount so as to suppress starting of the pump, the mechanism is operated. The distal end surfaces of the respective vane elements 18 are worn by slide-contact with a peripheral surface 24 of a pumping cavity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
