PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus which can shorten a time before the rotation of a polygon motor becomes stable. SOLUTION: There are set a time difference measuring block 21 and a clock generating block 22. The time difference measuring block 21 measures a time after an immediately precedent synchronization detection signal is detected before an intermediate transfer mark sensor 6 detects a mark, or a time after the intermediate transfer mark sensor 6 detects the mark before an immediately succedent synchronization detection signal is detected, and compares a preliminarily set setting value changeable target setting value with the measured time. The clock generating block 22 controls an external clock of the polygon motor 23 by whether the target setting value is larger or smaller than the measured time, and a time difference.
