A retainer for a tool 156 comprises guide posts 135 resiliently mounted on the nose 128 of a rotary-hammer, and a bridge piece 144 mounted on the posts and adapted for retaining engagement with the tool. The posts are slidable in the nose and springs 163, 166 are interposed between the nose and nuts 162, and the nose and washers 167 engaging abutments 141 on the posts. The bridge is pressed by springs 170 against the heads 139 of the posts to retain the bridge in either of its two lower tool retaining position or in its upper inoperative position (shown). The V-shape of the slot 147 permits the bridge to engage tools having necked portions 157 of different size. The nose 128 has a hexagonal bore adapted to engage hexagonal parts of non-rotary tools which have cylindrical parts adapted to engage the bore of a rotary drive member 127. The rotary percussive tool shown has hexagonal and cylindrical parts engaging the bores of the drive member and the nose respectively. |
