<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoder capable of decoding image signals with high definition, without the use of a memory bus system having a wide band by suppressing the frequency of memory access. <P>SOLUTION: The decoder for decoding an image signal coded by prediction coding is provided with a memory for storing the coded image signal; a prediction decoding means for decoding the image signal, using a reference image signal stored in the memory; and a control means for comparing the address of the memory storing the image signal to be decoded with the address of the memory for storing the reference image signal of the image signal decoded immediately before and controlling reading of the reference image signal applied to the prediction decoding means, according to the result of the comparison. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
