PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the burden of discharging waste toner from a waste toner box and to securely prevent the waste toner from scattering when discharged. SOLUTION: Toner discharge mechanism includes: a housing furnished with a cover which is freely opened or closed; a toner conveyance passage which is supported by the housing and used for conveying toner removed from the surface of a photoreceptor; a toner recovery means for recovering toner conveyed within the toner conveyance passage; a shutter disposed at a space between the toner conveyance passage and the toner recovery means; a linking means for linking the movement of the shutter with the opening or closing operation of the cover so that the shutter moves to open the space when the cover is closed and it moves to block the space when the cover is opened.
