PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white organic electroluminescent (EL) element emitting white-colored light having high luminance and high color purity. SOLUTION: This white organic EL element 20 has an organic layer 21 interposed between a positive electrode 11 and a negative electrode 18 on a substrate 10. In the organic layer 21, a first blue luminescent layer 13a, a first Dye layer 14a, a first green luminescent layer 16a, a second blue luminescent layer 13b, a second Dye layer 14b, a second green luminescent layer 16b, a hole blocking layer 15, and a third green luminescent layer 16c are stacked from the positive electrode side. When a voltage is applied from a power source 22, the respective luminescent layers and the respective Dye layers emit green, blue and red light.
