PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of exactly detecting that a heating member reaches an abnormal temperature and uniformly maintaining the temperature in the rotating direction of the heating member. SOLUTION: The fixing device has the heating member heated by induction heating, a pressurization member for providing the heating member with a prescribed pressure and an induction heating mechanism for providing the heating member with a prescribed magnetic field. The device detects the temperature in a region having a possibility of being heated most by the induction heating mechanism among the outer peripheral surfaces of the heating member, for example, in the neighborhood where the outer peripheral surface of the heating member and the induction heating mechanism approach each other. If the detected temperature is within the range of the set abnormal temperature, the fixing device shuts off the electric power to be supplied to the induction heating mechanism.
