TRANSPORT FORMAT COMBINATION LOOKUP AND RESELECTION

A method is provided to derive a valid transport format combination (TFC) indicator (TFCI) in a wireless communication system wherein a set of transport channels are multiplexed a composite channel. Each transport channel (518) is checked for whether data is expected on the transport channel and monitored for received data (520). Candidate TFCs not having a matching transport format indicator for the current transport channel are eliminated from a candidate TFC set (525). The TFCI is identified according to a single remaining candidate TFC of the candidate TFC set (526).
