<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shape-measuring instrument for measuring the shape of a workpiece with higher accuracy, regardless of the size or the shape of the workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: This shape measuring instrument is equipped with a contact-type probe 10 made to contact with the workpiece W for measuring the shape of the workpiece W, an actuation shaft 7 equipped with the probe 10 at its end, a bearing 8 for supporting the actuation shaft 7 in an axially movable way, and a probe displacement amount measuring means 20 for measuring the amount of displacement of the probe 10 during the movement of the workpiece W, and the probe 10 when relatively moving the two so as to sequentially move a contact point between the workpiece W and the probe 10.
