PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary input device capable of aiming at long life and a reduction in thickness, with which a variety of operating information of an electronic equipment can be inputted by rotating and pressing its rotary operating body. SOLUTION: The rotary operating body 3 is provided with operating displays 7 formed on an operating panel 4, a reference electrode 12 fitted at a rear side of the operating panel 4, and a plurality of detection electrodes 15 arranged with a given gap so as to oppose the rear side of the operating panel 4 of the rotary operating body 3 and cross a rotation direction of the rotary operating body 3. A detection means 17 is so structured to detect changes in capacitance of one of the detection electrodes 15 adjacent to the reference electrode 15 at non-operation of the rotary operating body 3, and that of the detection electrode 15 opposite to the operating display 7 of the operating panel 4 near or in contact with an electrostatic body 16.
