PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film which has an excellent dimentional stability in all temperature/humidity regions of a low temperature with low humidity, low temperature with high humidity, high temperature with low humidity and high temperature with high humidity, and is useful for a high-density magnetic recording medium, in particular. SOLUTION: The biaxally oriented polyester film contains 80-99.9 wt.% polyester (polymer 1) and 0.1-5 wt.% polyimide (polymer 2), wherein the density is 1.39-1.41 g/cm<SP>3</SP>and the refractive index is 1.65-1.75 in longitudinal and transverse directions and in all the directions of making 45°with both the directions.
