PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of easily and inexpensively confirming an original size, even in the case of a book original of unspecified size. SOLUTION: An image reading part 2 is arranged in the upper part of the image forming apparatus 1 main body, and a contact glass 3 as an original platen for placing the original is arranged in the upper part of the image reading part 2, that is, on the top face of the image forming apparatus 1 main body. An original cover 4 for pressing the original placed on the contact glass 3 is arranged above the contact glass 3, and the cover 4 is supported on the top face of the apparatus 1 main body so as to open/close through a hinge part 5. Besides, in addition to original indicating means 9a and 9b positioned on the left and inner sides of the contact glass 3, an original indicating means 9c capable of displaying a plurality of sizes is arranged on the front side of the contact glass 3. Then, even in the case of copying the book original of unspecified size, the user is not required to look into the original indicating means 9a positioned on the inner side.
