POROUS FORMED ARTICLE, POROUS SINTERED ARTICLE, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME AND COMPOSITE MEMBER COMPRISING THE SAME

A method for producing a porous formed article containing open pores, which comprises rendering the coagulation and the phase separation of inorganic particles to proceed, in a sol containing inorganic particles and a solvent. The inorganic particles are preferably particles of one or more inorganics selected from the group consisting of titania, silica, alumina, zinc oxide and zirconia. When the sol strongly acidic, the enhancement of the pH of the sol renders the coagulation and the phase separation of inorganic particles to proceed, and when the sol strongly basic, the lowering of the pH of the sol renders the coagulation and the phase separation of inorganic particles to proceed. The above method is novel and allows the production of a porous formed article and sintered article having a communicated and continuous structure and further is applicable to a wide range of inorganic materials.
