PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proton conductor composition providing a proton conductor membrane having high proton conductivity without increasing the amount of introduced quantity of a sulfonic acid group, and also to provide a proton conductor membrane therefrom. SOLUTION: This proton conductor composition comprises 100 pts.wt. of poly arylene with the sulfonic acid group, and 0.01-60 pts.wt. of a hygroscopic inorganic porous compound. The hygroscopic inorganic porous compound is at least one kind of compounds selected from a group comprising particles of silica, synthetic zeolite, titania gel, alumina gel, zirconia gel, and yttria gel and a fibrous silica fiber.
