PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material having low optical transmission loss, a wide transmission band and high heat resistance. SOLUTION: A monomer expressed by general formula (1) and a monomer having a refractive index different from that of the first monomer are injected into a rotating tube while varying the composition ratio of the monomers, and the monomers are polymerized while being injected to manufacture an optical fiber preform having the refractive index varied from the wall face of the tube to the center. Then the preform is stretched. In formula (1), each of X and Y represents H, D or a halogen atom; Z represents H, D, CH3, CD3, CF3or a halogen atom; HET represents a heterocyclic group; and L represents a divalent linking group.
