PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber capable of exhibiting superior characteristics (loss characteristic or the like) even if it is bent with a radius of curvature of≤30 mm. SOLUTION: The optical fiber is provided with a core 2 and a clad 3 in which a refractive index distribution coefficient g is in the range of 1≤g≤3 and in which the refractive index gently varies along the radius direction. The diameter of the core 2 and that of the clad 3 are set at 50μm and 125μm respectively. The relative index difference (Δ) between the core 2 and the clad 3 is set at 1.5%<Δ<2.3%. For the purpose of reducing the radius of curvature and nonetheless maintaining a physical strength, the optical fiber is used which has a screening distortion characteristic of≥1.3%.
